Roberto's Story

Roberto’s journey is a story with two parts.

A decade ago, Roberto came to Guest House to seek treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, an addiction that had damaged the relationships with his family and children. He moved out of Guest House sober, and sustained that sobriety for the first time in his life.

But recovery isn't always a straight path.

After moving back to his native Puerto Rico, Roberto relapsed following the tremendous loss of his brother. He let his addiction take hold of his life again, losing the relationships he had tried so hard to repair, and even pushing away his love of the guitar.

When he finally decided that enough was enough, there was only one place that he wanted to seek treatment at.

“One day, I went to the bank and closed the account, and came here with two pairs of jeans and two shirts.”

Roberto entered Guest House’s Recovery Housing program, and began attending addiction counseling at the Guest House Counseling Clinic. Roberto has been sober since April of 2017, and after graduating from Recovery Housing earlier this year, he has moved into his own place and recently starting playing guitar again.

When you ask Roberto what makes Guest House More Than Shelter, he will tell you:

“Guest House saved my life.”
