Our Commitment to
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

In 2022, the Guest House of Milwaukee will continue to prioritize the development of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work and treatment environment for our staff and guests.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a term used to describe policies and programs that promote the representation and participation of different groups of individuals, including people of different ages, races and ethnicities, abilities and disabilities, genders, religions, cultures, and sexual orientations.

As we move forward into 2022, the agency’s Social Justice work will be directly linked to the overall mission of the Guest House: “To provide shelter, housing, education and services to Milwaukee’s homeless who seek to transform their lives with dignity and purpose.”

As an agency we realize that detrimental structural and systemic social injustices exist, both historically and currently. Since our agency has, as its sole purpose for being, a goal to end homelessness, we will focus our agency’s efforts on developing & creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce and work environment.

The Guest House cannot control systems and structures outside of our mission. However, we can and will work to impact outside systems by developing a model agency in how we treat our staff and the guests we serve!

To help our guests become self-sufficient, resilient, and productive individuals, we must be healthy in mind and spirit. To be healthy in mind and spirit, we must be engaged in a positive, diverse, and supportive environment. To be engaged, we must feel included and valued. We are committed to building and nurturing a culture where inclusiveness becomes the fabric of our agency’s DNA – not just an initiative.

Our goal is to create/build an environment where there is a deep sense of pride, passion, and belonging that transcends any role or work unit, and is unified in our shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and social responsibility. We believe that different ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds create a stronger and more creative work environment that delivers better and more satisfying results.
